2021 The Count's Selection Ribolla Gialla

The Buena Vista Vinicultural Society was formed in 1863 by the winery's founder, Count Agoston Haraszthy, to further improve its winemaking prowess and expand its vineyards. The Vinicultural Society has been restored as a collection of unique small-production wines that honor the winery's pioneering spirit and contribution to California winemaking. The Vinicultural Society explores noteworthy, obscure varietals, vineyards, and the incredible terroir of Sonoma. Being true to our heritage, Buena Vista Winery presents to you our Counts Selection Ribolla Gialla.

The Ribolla Gialla is a white Italian wine grape originally from the northeastern part of Italy. The aromas of ripened citrus, tropical fruit, and freshly squeezed lemon embrace from the glass. The palate is layered with touches of honeycomb, baked apple, and allspice. This medium-bodied wine has a magnificent, creamy mouthfeel balanced with bright acidity and a long, lengthy finish.

2021 was a smooth and uneventful harvest season. June started out warm, followed by a cool and foggy July and August that slowed ripening and caused a nice retention of acidity. Even ripening, with no extreme heat events, made for ideal growing conditions. Sparse winter rains resulted in an early bud break, evenly developed clusters, and smaller berries packed full of flavor. Overall, the fruit was exceptional, making it another amazing year for quality.
