2016 Geza's Selection Pinot Noir

The Buena Vista Vinicultural Society, formed in 1863 by the winery's founder, Count Agoston Haraszthy to further improve its winemaking prowess and expand its vineyards, has been restored as a collection of unique small-production wines that honor the winery's pioneering spirit and contribution to California winemaking. The Vinicultural Society explores clonal selections, varietals and the incredible terroir of Northern California.

A deep burgundy color in the glass, our 2016 Geza's Selection Pinot Noir opens with delicate aromas of dark red fruit and soft spice. The palette is bursting with flavors of raspberry and blackberry jam that are complimented by notes of cedar forest. Rich, warm and well-structured, this Pinot Noir offers a long finish where sweet fruit carries through and is supported by nice wood notes.

Named for the Count's eldest son who fought in the Civil War, Geza's Selection Pinot Noir is harvested from two vineyards in the Petaluma Gap that complement each other beautifully. Sloping hills, rocky clay loam\ soils and low-vigor vines help keep yields low while the myriad of clones ensure greater complexity in the wines. Our 2016 Geza's Selection Pinot Noir was fermented in small, one-ton open top fermenters with hand punchdowns before being aged for 11 months in French Oak, 25% new.
